The “Idea Series” is a series I began in graduate school, 2002. I had begun studying textiles after studying wearable art in undergraduate school. My wearable art was/is typically made up of a material that is not recognizable to the viewer i.e. rubber, microfiche, and washers. In the textiles program, I was learning all kinds of new techniques, but using traditional materials i.e. yarn, fabric, and dyes. I was struggling at this point. I decided to begin creating a series that would carry the same composition, but a different material in each. This series was meant to connect my ideas between unusual materials and textile processes. I created over 70 of these in graduate school and continue to create more as my sketchbook today. I have included images of my top favorites below.
